Understanding the Procedure
The breast augmentation procedure has become one of the most popular in cosmetic surgery in the United States. Modern technology has improved the procedure itself as well as increased the number of options from which the patient can choose. Dr. Nordberg can discuss these options in detail with you during your first appointment to ensure that your care plan is customized to provide you with the best possible result.
You will be given a choice between saline, silicone, and cohesive silicone implants which vary both aesthetically and texturally. Silicone implants tend to look and feel more natural; however, saline implants are still a popular choice, as they can take on an equally natural appearance. Dr. Nordberg takes careful measurements of each patient and thoroughly discusses every option in order to give her the opportunity to make the most educated decision.
Dr. Nordberg will take your wants and needs into account to determine which surgical technique is right for you. He can insert your implants
through a number of different incision points such as in the inframammary fold (the natural crease that occurs just below the breast), around the nipple, or through the axilla. A pocket is created for the implant and can be created underneath the pectoral muscle or behind the breast gland
.
The breast augmentation surgery will be performed in one day at our fully accredited operating room in Fayetteville, NC. You will be welcomed into the comfort of our office in the morning, and leave a few hours later. You may experience post-operative discomfort, bruising, and swelling for one to two weeks. During this time, you will be asked to refrain from exercise and limit strenuous activity to ensure that your healing process is successful and free of complications. You will be fitted with a surgical bra that is to be worn for three weeks to ensure that, while your incisions heal, your implants stay in place.
Breaking down the Cost
Cost depends mainly upon the surgeon you choose and the type of implants you wish to receive. Dr. Nordberg will provide an estimated cost of treatment based on the refinements you want during your consultation. His staff excels at helping patients determine financing plans that place the cost of breast augmentation within most budgets.
Your Surgeon 's Fees
A surgeon 's fees are typically proportionate to qualifications and experience. In other words, a surgeon who has been in practice for many years and has earned a reputation for providing excellent results will almost surely charge a higher fee than a surgeon who has only recently completed his or her residency. This is not to say that a less experienced surgeon is incapable of providing the results you want. However, spending more money to undergo treatment with a surgeon who has performed breast augmentation for many years
can increase the likelihood of achieving beautiful results and many years of satisfaction and boosted confidence.
Type of Implants
Saline, silicone, and cohesive silicone implants all offer unique advantages that may make one choice a better fit for one patient than another. Saline implants
typically cost about $1,000 per pair. Silicone implants
, which many patients believe feel the most like natural breast tissue, usually cost about $2,000 per pair. Cohesive silicone implants are the latest type of implant, and cost about $3,000 per pair.

Facility Fees
Plastic surgery requires a carefully controlled environment that meets stringent safety standards. Breast augmentation can be performed in a hospital, an ambulatory surgical center (a third-party facility rented by the practice), or a private surgical suite owned and operated by the surgeon. Hospitals are the most expensive option, and are usually only recommended when a patient has health conditions that increase certain risks of surgery. Ambulatory surgical centers will cost less than a hospital. The most economical option is a private surgical suite. Fortunately, Dr. Nordberg has a fully accredited private surgical suite that helps to reduce costs for his breast augmentation patients.
Anesthesia
Breast augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia
. Anesthesia can be administered either by a nurse or an anesthesiologist. While an anesthesiologist will cost more than a nurse anesthetist, he or she also has more extensive training, which can ensure a greater degree of safety. Nurses frequently administer anesthesia in complete safety, but many patients experience greater peace of mind when an anesthesiologist is on hand. At our practice, we work with an anesthesiologist in order to ensure your comfort and safety.
What 's New in Breast Augmentation
The Natrelle highly cohesive gel implant was recently approved by the FDA for use in both breast augmentation and reconstruction. It is an anatomically-shaped, textured implant filled with silicone gel that maintains its shape better than traditional gel implants. Dr. Nordberg is certified to use this new implant and can guide a woman through her implant choices in breast augmentation.
