About the Injections
There are a variety of dermal fillers. Some fillers are used in conjunction with other rejuvenation treatments, but Dr. Nordberg will assess your needs and establish a course of treatment best suited to those needs.
Once your assessment is complete, Dr. Nordberg will mark the injection sites on your face as guides and then clean them with antibacterial. A topical anesthetic will be used to numb the area and sometimes the dermal filler includes an anesthetic as well. The actual injections take only a few minutes, giving you excellent results almost immediately.
When the injections are complete, the guideline marks will be washed off, and you can use an ice pack to alleviate any temporary discomfort you may feel. You may wear makeup after the procedure, but are advised not to put much pressure on the injection sites so as not to move the dermal filler.
The Options
One of the biggest advantages to dermal fillers is the number of options they give you. Depending on your desires as far as the texture and appearance of your treatment, Dr. Nordberg will help you decide which filler is right for you. Dermal fillers are categorized as either temporary or semi-permanent. Temporary filler options include:
- Toxins: Although not a filler, this popular type of injection includes treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic that relax the muscles that are responsible for wrinkles. Most commonly used in the forehead and between the eyebrows, toxins smooth the lines of your face to create a more youthful appearance. Please see our BOTOX® page on our website for more information.
- Hyaluronic Acids: These substances found naturally in the body give skin its volume. Usually broken down by sun exposure, the natural hyaluronic acids in our skin can be replaced in order to plump lips or make them fuller. - Collagen: This major protein found in our skin can be damaged by sun exposure. The loss of collagen causes the face to look aged. These injections improve the texture of the skin and create a youthful appearance.
Poly-L-lactic fillers are considered semi-permanent and are designed to smooth skin and even out fine lines and wrinkles, as well as provide volume.
